ACF Participates in Spartan Service Day
Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan, the Farm Bureau Agent Charitable Fund and Michigan State University Athletics joined together for a day of service in support of efforts to end hunger in Michigan. On Saturday, September 15, these groups gathered at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint to assist with sorting, collection and processing efforts. This volunteer service event was part of the Michigan State Athletics Spartan Service Days program presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan.
Through these spirited efforts, the group was able to sort and process 39,136 pounds of food – enough to account for 1,174,080 meals. Food Bank of Eastern Michigan Volunteer Coordinator Keri Brack noted the group’s efforts represented their “most productive volunteer day of the year,” even out-producing larger volunteer groups.
About 30 people from Family of Companies and MSU helped, including Farm Bureau Insurance agents Michael Stein of East Lansing, Nick Hurst of Auburn Hills and Bill Angerbrandt of Croswell. Stein, who brought his son to the event, said, “I got involved with ACF because there’s no better cause for us to get behind than to help feed hungry kids in Michigan. I believe it’s absolutely our responsibility as an agricultural insurance company. Kids need a good start and not to be hungry when they go home at night.”
The Farm Bureau of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund is a donor advised fund within the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture. It serves as a fund for Farm Bureau agents, clients and partners to contribute to charitable causes throughout Michigan. Following the purpose and vision of the Michigan Foundation of Agriculture, the fund grants monies to provide food, build agriculture awareness, educate and help citizens throughout the state.
The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food to member non-profit and charitable organizations in 22 counties. It is one of seven food banks in the state that make up the Food Bank Council of Michigan and a member of Feeding America.
