Kamer Sponsors Hymns for Hunger in Zeeland

In October, the Nolan Kamer Agency sponsored a unique fundraiser for Harvest Stand Ministries, an organization that fights hunger in his hometown of Zeeland, Michigan.

“Harvest Stand Ministries operates a food bank, a pantry, and a grocery store in our community,” Kamer said. “And we wondered how we could help support them in the fight against hunger.”

Eventually, they decided on a musical fundraiser, a hymn sing, called “Hymns for Hunger.” The event featured singer Chris Hansen and The Hark Up Band, a full choir, including vocalists, drums, and Hammond organ. Community Reformed Church volunteered to host the evening’s event and the date was set.

Leading up to the fundraiser, Kamer, who also served as the fundraiser’s main sponsor, helped market the event.

“We were on the local radio, printed flyers and put them up, asked churches and other groups to post the information on their bulletin boards,” he said.

The Hymn Sing also featured a VIP event. Before the main concert, Hansen performed on a baby grand piano accompanied by vocalist Breighanna Minnema as guests enjoyed appetizers donated by the Salt n’ Pepper Grill in nearby Holland.

Along with the musical performances, the main program included remarks by Harvest Stand Ministries Executive Director Craig Schrotenboer, the Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) video, and Kamer wrapped up the night with an overview of the ACF and its mission.

Agents Mark Hop, Angela Shannon, and Andy Spears attended the Hymn Sing and supported the fundraiser.

“It’s always an honor to support a cause that benefits people in need,” said Spears. “Being a part of an event like Hymns for Hunger is of the reasons I became an agent and business owner. Farm Bureau Agent Charitable Fund is growing by the day, and the direction is to support other areas of need in every community in our great state of Michigan.”

Kamer was very happy with the results of the evening and he is already planning another Hymn Sing fundraiser for next year.

“It was a great event,” said Kamer. “What stood out to me was the compassion and commitment of everyone involved. It was a great example of people caring for people.”
